About the Department
Welcome to the Political Science Department at Katwa College. Established in 1960 with a modest beginning of two faculty members, the Political Science Department at Katwa College has grown to become a cornerstone of academic excellence and intellectual development. Over the years, we have continuously evolved to meet the educational needs of our students and the demands of a dynamic world. Key Milestones: B.A. Degree (General) course introduced in 1962. Honours Course introduced in 1967. Two-year H.S. Course offered from 1976 to 2001.Currently operating under CBCS system and NEP 2020 guidelines with four full-time and two SACT faculty members.
Current Academic Snapshot: 47 students enrolled in the Honours Course in the current academic session.Total of 206 students enrolled in General/Pass courses in Political Science.
Departmental Focus: Our department aims to impart quality education in Political Science, particularly to rural and economically disadvantaged students.We foster a logical mindset to enable critical thinking and judgment on various issues.Emphasis on creativity, research orientation, and employability of our students. Encouraging active citizenship among all students.

Mission: To cultivate holistic human beings capable of contributing positively to society, not merely as professionals but as empathetic individuals.
Future Goals: Increase student enrollment and enhance diversity within the department. Improve academic outcomes and student success rates.Provide updated knowledge on contemporary political issues. Expand the departmental library resources and establish a dedicated departmental complex.
Add-On Course on "Leadership" : The Political Science Department of Katwa College has started a new add-on course called "Leadership" in 2024. This course will help students develop leadership skills, think critically, and understand governance and decision-making better.It is designed to support the main curriculum and includes interactive sessions, case studies, and practical lessons on leadership. Open to students from all subjects, this course aims to prepare future leaders and responsible citizens.
